Well, it's not too important, I think, but it was a little interesting.

It looks like they could be either braided or cloth for the formal, and often cloth for the casual dayware.

They look fine; done all the time.

Guess it's just another part of Highland attire that is not set in stone.

I think I would prefer cloth epaulets, but braided wouldn't bother me.

DITTO. 2 of my Tweeds ( coarser weave) have BRAIDED, 1 (smoother WEAVE) has "flat".

IMHO, The "braided LOOK GREAT on the "coarser weave"

The "flat Look BEST on the "smoother weave" ( a little dressier )

I don't believe there are any rules for epaulettes. Purely a matter of choice by maker and wearer. What I might ask is why have them at all?

I like the wider braided style epaulettes like on this jacket, although I seldom see them offered. Most of the braided ones I see are like 1/4 inch wide, like a little rope.

I didn't put them on my jackets. They don't seem to be an absolute requirement on Argyles, but are on the Prince Charlie they are.

I've posted this pic before. The jacket is one of the Jos. A Banks that were on sale. VMAC did the conversion. The braided Epaulettes are one of her "trade marks" when she does a conversion. I think it looks great on a "Day Jacket", If it is because of the courser weave, then so be it.

I have sever examples of day wear and evening wear and examples of both braided and flat. I believe it is solely the choice of the tailor. I have seen no preference over one type than another.

When done properly, both can look very nice.

Well, on the semi-formal black argyle that I plan to convert from a notched lapel tuxedo, I will probably put braided epauletts that are for a PC. I can buy those from the same place that one would get kilt straps and buckles.

Here's the link to the Highland X Press page where they are offered.

If anyone has used those, you might tell us how they are.
