I own a "number" of KILT, ( "synthetic, TANKs, lighter weight wool ) & wear them almost daily for ALL types of occasions, I can perhaps "cast" a little light on the subject.
Before I start, let me say that IMHO, putting 1 or more good synthetics in your closet, is a VERY GOOD IDEA, BUT the ?? was ( as I understand it ) Owning only a single Kilt as regular attire.
The above comments pertaining to "wool " are spot on, but Perhaps the following will be of assistance.
1. The quality of the material may be a consideration. My wool kilts are all of "good" quality, but there is a difference between them ( tightness of weave, finish,etc..) My "issue" regimentals & my one "Strome') are the best & EASIEST to keep clean. ( note - there maybe 1 more, see below)
2. "Protective finish" - I recently got a TANK that has the wool protected with a "finish" It does change the "feel". As to how well it will work & MORE IMPORTANT, how long will it stand up ????
3. PROTECT your KILT with a "KILT APRON". I took a "page" from the REAL PROs, the KILTED Regiments. They wore Kilt Aprons to protect their Kilts.
