    Hey Dennis,
Check the Lochcorron (sp?) site and go to their strome weight cloth. They show the muted Lamont tartan there. It's classed as "old and rare" so it will cost a pretty penny more. I have the Lamont modern and I like it very much, you can dress it up or down as you wish although I think it dresses up much better. Having said that, I'm waiting on a tank in ancient Lamont as we speak. Good luck.

    Lamont Kilt

Welcome, I'm with Clan Lamont. USA Kilts has it in the different patterns. Ilike the weathered, will be ordering one soon.

I would also like to get in on a Lamont. My last name also falls under Lamont and MacGregor. Problem is funding--wish I had been into this when Jerry had the Weathered Lamont!

Lochcarron weaves the Lamont tartan in ancient, modern, and weathered (which, for some reason, people occasionally refer to as "hunting" though this is incorrect).

"Muted" is a color scheme offered by House of Edgar, and they produce it in a medium weight. It is part of their "Old and Rare" range, which will make it a bit more expensive than otherwise, but not prohibitively so. The Scottish Tartans Museum prices all of our medium weight kilts the same, whether or not they are "old and rare." Edgar also offers a few options in ancient and modern Lamont, in medium and heavy weights.

Now, the Lamont weathered in Lochcarron's heavy weight does fall into their "rare select" price category, which does make it more expensive than their ancient or modern versions of Lamont. For example, an 8 yard kilt in Lochcarron's Lamont ancient or modern from the Scottish Tartans Museum would cost you $499 while the weathered would cost $555.

We sell Lochcarron's heavy weight "Stome" cloth for $79/yd, and their "rare select" range for $89/yd. So yes, it is more per yard, but not $113 you were quoted. :-)

As to the question of which to get, these are all the same tartan just produced in different hues. The choice is really up to you and which you like the best. Any one is acceptible. I always tell people that if they don't have a preference, the modern colors are always a good choice as these really are the standard colors of the tartan. All the other choices are variations on the standard.
