The sett is the order of the pattern of thread color changes and how many threads of each color are used. This is the thread count. A half sett only uses half of that pattern. For example, the Black Watch tartan has a black line and also a double black line in each repeat of the sett's pattern. The half sett of the Black Watch only has the single black line, or it could have the double black line withoutthe the single line.
