You might take a cue from Henry Higgins, (My Fair Lady.) He showed up in tweed, (but was I think protesting the pretentious nature of the event, being kilted may be looked upon as the same.) I think a tweed Argyll with wastecoat and tie would do well in that scenario. You'll stand out, but that's pretty normal in a kilt, unless your at the highland games.
Best Wishes,
David

I'd go with a nice argyll daywear outfit. Most gentlemen just wear business attire, so the kilt would really be distinctive. Here's some photo's; http://www.babchouston.org/en/rsss/?...66&reload=true
I'd also consider the fact that it's in June in Houston!
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

Tweed would be tempting as I just received my Harris tweed A&w, but not Houston in June (even though it's an indoor event)! Thanks, though.
