My oldest brother use to live in Kentucky, and he told me many times of how the liquid refreshment could be found in these so called dry places.
The games sould like they will be a grand time. Luck and a fun time to all !

Please stop by the Barclay tent and say hello. I was thinking we might could get a group shot with a "get well" sign for ole Jock and then post it on his thread. I can make a sign for the occasion. Any thoughts on a clever message for Jock? Or will "Get well soon, Jock" work. Eagle, you might be the only one with time constraints. Any suggestions? I usually like right after the opening ceremonies.
See you all there.

HeathBar,
Do you know my friend: The Rev Ray Kasch who does his thing in your neck of the woods and goes about kilted?
Top man, for a sky pilot with a lovely wife. (Her Grandad stole the Chattanooga Choo Chu.)
I went to the TN Highland Games in Murfreesboro in Oct 2001. The world has changed quite a lot since then.

The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

Entirely possible that I will venture down. I'll keep watching the thread for possible connection point.

I don't know the name, but I might know the face. I was at those games. I believe it was cold that year. I seem to remember wearing a sweatshirt that year. That was before I was kilted. The TN Highland games are on a hiatus. This will be the second year that they have not taken place. Hopefully they will start back up and you can return for another visit.
(edit)I Googled the Rev. to see if I recognized him and I don't. I am familiar with his church and may know some of the St. Patrick's congregation. I believe they are working on building a permanent home.

Reason: googled the Rev.

Small(ish) World. Did you go to the 'Kirking O' The Tartan? on the Sunday with the Rev ODDIS something or other.
I was carrying the bags of the official piper and took part in the 'parade' into Church. The Rev was explaining the order of march. At the end he asked if there were any questions. I made the mistake of asking what the 'acolytes' are. He told me and then he made the mistake of asking me what I thought they were: I thought acolytes were little pixies that dance around the devil - Poor old Oddis was not amused but he got his revenge.
His sermon took over an hour most of it fire and brimstone - I lost the will to live. I've listened to some boring stuff in my life (anything to do with 'elfin safe tea or equel ops/diversity) but this was right up there.
Other than that a great weekend. Bought a superb pair of Justin Ropers!
I especially liked the prisoners in orange jump suits doing the donkey work. Do the crime do the time - justice being seen to be done.

Hey David,
I hope you are able to make it. I'll open up the Barclay tent for a rallying point. The tents at Glasgow are very nice. We get an extra 10 feet of space length wise. Where most games give you 10' x 10', at Glasgow, we get 10' x 20'. That extra 10 feet makes it nice for gathering.
We just need to pick a time. And it looks like the weather might hold out. Last I heard, no rain for the weekend, but temps in the low to mid 80's. And probably humid. At least the cicadas will be asleep.

I'm afraid I won't be available for a meet-up, unless you guys come to me sometime Saturday morning. I'll be stuck in the P&D area all day (in the trees between the upper and lower fields, next to the golf course - just follow the sounds of the pipes). Since I'm one of the two co-directors and the official EUSPBA monitor (making sure everything follows the rules), I can't go AWOL.
The main P&D tent is about 100 feet behind the restrooms. We start at about 08:30 (solo competition starts at 09:00) and finish around 17:00. Once things get going, it's relatively calm for the first hour or so. That is, until the first sets of competitors finish, then there's scoresheets to deal with, placings to post, medals to hand out, and competitors to fend off until we get those things done. (Have you posted the results for xyz yet? No, that competition doesn't finish for another 20 minutes. When will you post the results, then? Um, after we get the scoresheets?)
I'm also piping with the Grade 5 Louisville Pipe Band (first band on at 14:15, so right after opening ceremonies time, I'll be eating a small bite and starting to tune up), and am the emcee for the rest of the pipe band competiton, so it's a very hectic day.
Thank goodness the cicadas (or at least not nearly as many) won't be around this year. Last year they almost drowned out the band contest! And, they get everywhere - it's a big distraction when you're trying to play and a cicada crawls up your leg, or lands on your blowstick!

Starts tomorrow folks
At Gatlinburg we met immediately following the opening ceremonies. I would suggest the same thing for Glasgow. And you are all more than welcome to gather beneath the Barclay tent. Sandford, I'm sure you'll have the SSA tent to keep your things. But you all are welcome to park your belongings at my tent. There should be plenty of space. I would still like to make a picture for Jock to post on that thread. I may just edit the picture to include the message rather than make a sign to hold.
Feel free to make other suggestions.
See ya there!
Edit: Looks like weather.com is predicting scattered T-storms for both days. And a high of 83 one day and 85 the other.
