    Memorial Day

I want to send my thanks to all veterans and especially to the families of veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice as we celebrate this Memorial Day Weekend.

Ditto. I want to personall remember my grandfather, who was a doughboy in France in 1917, and my father whose SeaBee service at Okinawa earned him a Purple Heart and a few other medals.

They actually removed a piece of Japanese shrapnell from my dad's neck just behind his right ear in 1999 a couple of months before he died from heart failure. Ha. That close to me not being here!

I thank God for all those who have gone to that country from whose bourne no traveller returns, who saved our country for freedom.

Too bad there aren't many like that anymore.

Freedom is not free, but the US Marine Corps will pay most of your share.

Lest we forget... we are at war even if the news cameras only take pictures when they wear pink boxers.

Remember today those who went before, and those who are still at the front.

And lastly, don't judge my generation too early. There are still brave men who join in time of war.

I would like to chime in with my thanks as well.

Too bad there aren't many like that anymore.
    But there are some.
In front of me is a middle school yearbook from 1991. Therein is a picture of a smiling goofy 7th grader. At that time, I was a young "shop" teacher in my 4th year of teaching. During that time I also finished my service in the National Guard as an infantry sergeant. The student in that picture now rests with my great grandfather and my father-in-law at Arlington National Cemetery. He was a Marine Corps Captain on his 2nd tour in Iraq and was killed in May, 06.

    Thank you one and all.

    I certainly won't forget.

    Well said, one and all.

Captmac and I have had the opportunity to sail on several USN and Canadian ships in the past few years. Our current sailors and soldiers and bright, brave and as up to the job as those in the past (well maybe except for Capt Aubrey of Master and Commander). We always come away from those trips with a sense of pride in the women and men currently serving. Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
