Thanks all, I emailed Lochcarron for a price on the Lamont Weathered they quoted $113.00 a yard. That is a little pricey for me...

Do check around. Scotweb shows it for about $60/yard double width, plus shipping and applicable duties. Your kilt maker almost certainly can do better than $113! If possible, let them handle the details.

2 yards double-width, roughly, should make a kilt like David's box pleat, shown above; and 4 would make a tank.
