I agree, good look, but not traditional. I wore my black SWK, a black button up, black waistcoat, black hose, white dress sporran, and a silver tie to our Shakespeare Theater's latest production of 12th Night. I would have preferred a gray dress sporran to match the tie, but don't have one. Someone from the theater mentioned as the play was letting out that we were the best dressed couple there. She forgot her camera, so no pics I'm afraid, but I will likely wear the ensemble again.

I think, raibeart_dubh, that as this is the "TRADITIONAL HIGHLAND DRESS" sub-forum, that an all black ensemble really has no place in our discussions beyond the fact that it isn't traditional.
I hope you aren't offended, but there are all sorts of other places one can discuss faddish and contemporary dress on XMTS. Perhaps the moderators can move this thread to the proper place.

I'm not offended. I agree but...
The original poster asked what we thought about it. I'm telling him what I think about it. Maybe this query would be more appropriate elsewhere. Perhaps the Kilt Advice section would be a better place for this question.

I think it would look rather sharp with something along the lines of the Highland Granite tartan. Traditional no, but sharp.
Fair enough.

My personal opinion is people look better with the white up next to the face. It gives light to the face without having the floating head look. Switch the shirt for a cream if your skin doesn't look good with white but light colors look more classy and clean and not faddish.
Of course it is justmy opinion. (you know the right one)

I will wear any color of shirt BUT white with my kilts. Different shades of purple, black, green, etc., but never white.
I'll have to find some pics, but the black on black looks great when I do it. But, then again, according to a certain fair lass, I'm good looking no matter what I wear!

For those of us who work as musicians, the opportunity to have an all black ensemble comes along quite frequently. When in "the pit" orchestra for plays or other such performances it is the standard dress. I've seen an all black with kilt pulled off, and it works really well. Go for it mate!

While I'm not too keen on an all black outfit, I like the look.
I intend to wear a kilt in the Thom(p)son Grey tartan, with black hose, black shirt, black glengarry (with dicing), black vest, and red flashes. However the vest is of the least importance due to weather and the fact that it's not all that noticeable with a matching shirt.
Thanks for the pics and info guys.
