Funny that I should have been reading this thread and one of the TV channels here was showing "The Quiet Man". There were two laddies wearing kilts in the horse-racing scene as well as a pipe band playing (although I never saw it). There were lots of Tam o' Shanters worn as well! I doubt the film makers must have been a bit confused about just which culture they were trying to portray - Brigadoon or Galway! Never mind, John Wayne was great as usual and they didn't try to give him a pseudo-irish accent.

The Quiet Man was actually filmed in Cong, Co. Mayo and not Galway. The opening credits show a shot of Ashford Castle, where the cast and crew stayed.

There was no pipe band depicted -- just two pipers at the Inishfree Cup playing The Wearing o' the Green and Believe me if all those Endearing Young Charms.... Their costumes, whilst not typical of Ireland in the late 1920's, certainly tried to get the Irish nationalist look, since some Irish nationalists such as Pearce had adopted the kilt.

And John Wayne didn't have an accent because he had immigrated to America (Pittsburgh, Mass, USA!) as a young lad.

He was and always will be the iconic American Hero.

He has alway been a role model and hero of mine. Just remember, he had a great sence of humor as well!
