Boots + Kilt Hose + Garter Flashes + Sgian Dubh = Oh Dear!

I realize, probably my opinion and some others as well... But, whilst wearing boots with your kilt hose, garter flashes, and a sgian dubh is a wee bit odd to me. I've been seeing it more than usual lately. Here's a couple of photos as examples:

Let me state, this was an evening kilt night and a very casual one at that. There were also others with the same look and with higher boots.

For those whom wear boots with kilts, I strongly recommend this look below:

I personally do not like the scrunched down look, not that I mind it on others, I just don't like it on me. Normally when wearing the boots with hose up I don't wear flashes or a sgian dubh but sometimes I do. The way I see it, this is a personal choice, with my legs as cut up and scared as they are from a few motorcycle accidents, I'd rather have the hose up.

    wow

I think they look fine, I do not have a personal preference as I have yet to try to wear boots with my kilt.

I personally don't do the scrunched down hose thing. I don't think it looks right on me and it doesn't feel right to me. However, others pull it off quite well.

On the occasions I do wear boots with my kilt, I also don't wear flashes or garter ties. Kind of the same thing, it doesn't look right or feel right on me.

I think temperature has a lot more to do with it than taste.

Northern clime kilties relocated to the desert heat would change their minds about scrunch down hose in a hurry. Probably go to (gasp!) sandals out of practicality.

Taking care of yourself in the heat is more important than fashion or style.

When dressed casually, if you don't scrunch the hose down, how can you show off that great tat on your calf?

You may have a point there, however we do get up over 100 degrees F here in the summer and I still wear my hose up, when I wear hose, there is a shot of me at Fergus two years ago in sandals it was just that hot.

Exactly, and here in Florida we have lots of humidity. I wear sandals with my kilt often because of this. Here's an example from last August (the afternoon started out hot then after leaving the NWC meeting it was raining):

I own a pair of boots myself, but have felt the pair I own doesn't look good with a kilt at all. At least while I'm in the kilt as well. ;) I don't wear them very often and had originally purchased them for a Halloween costume because I thought they were kind of "costume like."

I haven't owned a pair of hiking boots in a while, IMHO I do like that look with the hose scrunched down. Lately, I prefer to wear a lighter shoe when I go for a hike.

It might be just me, but I really see no reason to wear a sgain with boots.. Or in any casual setting.

Sweet Mother Macarthur! What is the tartan in the last photo of the first post? Just when I had my wish list down to one, too...

    I love that tartan!
