I love ravelry, but I mostly just wing it with all types of knitted socks. I've never been good at following directions.
My sister is planning on knitting me a pair of kilt hose, and has been sending me patterns to look at. These have full instructions (if you can read that sort of thing - I can't), and best of all, they are free Here's a cabled kilt hose from Drops Design: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/vi..._id=10&lang=us And one from icandyarn: for some reason this second image won't post, but you can see it if you follow the link below http://icandyarn.blogspot.com/search?q=kilt+hose

That one at icandy is lovely. Have to get Mom back onto the needles
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].
Quite right there are some really good places online for free patterns just a matter of finding them.

Not sure if this applies but, if it's your first attempt go to this link which will give you all you need to get started on hose. For what it's worth I would recommend getting the Knitpicks / Knitpro interchangeable 3.75mm needles with an 80cm wire as i find this combination the best as it is what I knitted my first hose on as per this example
