The flat horn is beautiful. I think I would like to get one myself one day, when I get my Longhunter/ Mohawk gear together.
You are correct. That is a "shoulder" hunting Pouch. But they are also made to hang from the Belt & can be used as a sporran. ( they can be made what ever size you want.) Here are 2 I made

We have a MASTER Craftsman on XMTS, ( http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/member.php?u=4664 ) who makes Pouches ( Elk hide, Bison etc ) & he made my flat horn.

I was just going to say that the concept could easily be adapted to a sporran. I've long thought that if I were to make my own sporran, I would design some sort of sheath into the back for a thin-handled folder.

    A "folder" would work.

BTW, IMHO, if I were to mount a knife, I would mount it on the side.

A knife mounted approximately horizontally (dependent on the natural grip angle of the hand) on the back would work as well. IMHO.

On one of my shooting bags I have a patch knife on the back. It's carried at about a 45 degree angle making it a bit easier to grab.

Though its a grand idea, I'm not sure I'd want a knife on the back of a sporran is the handle would rub on the kilt. I like the backs of my sporran to be relatively smooth.
