A D-Day salute
On this D-Day morning, a salute to my grandfathers, who chased evil across the sand and mud of France and Belgium and the heaving waters of the Pacific.
Far braver men than I, they came home with medals, and memories that were never spoken of.

I think it’s a great day to wear the WPG Gordon Highlander or Blackwatch to pay tribute to all the men who stormed the various Normandy beaches and those that parachuted in to show the world that an evil empire can not rule forever.

id like to honor my grandfather he wasnt part of the d-day but id still think of him during this time of year , he one of those brave men told to hold the line while other troops evacuated and sadly some surrendered
he was sadly captured soon after with his company and ended up a p.o.w after a forced march of several hundred miles to one of the stalag camps for the remainder of the war till the Russians freed him

My dad was there and is still alive today. He served with the 82nd Airborne.
Brave men all. He has never talked about this event even now today.

Aye, a salute to all of those men (and women) of that generation. My father and three of his cousins (who were really like uncles to me) served then. One spent 4 years in Europe via North Africa, Italy, and France. He also came home with medals and memories he didn't talk about. We didn't even know about the medals until after he had passed and we saw his record.
Sure, I served in Vietnam, but I don't feel I was ever called on to do what they did. Not sure if I could have or was that brave. These people are my heroes.
