Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

Miss South Carolina was supposedly in attendance, though I didn't see her. There were several young ladies who were Miss SC or Miss Teen SC hopefulls walking about. I talked to one high school lass who told me that the competitors were actually getting points towards the competition by participating in the events at the Highland Games! Actually, all of the young ladies were contestants in the Miss South Carolina Pageant. As part of the competition they were all taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme; the Greenville Highland Games are the first games in North America to be accredited to the program and, as a result, the Greenville committee will be expanding the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to other Highland games in 2010.
The young ladies took part in a total of three events, as well as raising money for a local charity.
