Howdy, all! I was wondering if Louisville were kilt friendly, hostile, or (like Dallas) indifferent. I'll be there the week of the 22nd, and at some point my coworkers and I will probably hit up um... 4th Street? Some place downtown with a strip of bars. I was planning on going kilted, but just curious if there were anything I should be wary of

Louisville (most often pronounced LOU-ah-vul) is kinda kilt-indifferent. You'll probably get a few folks asking what's the occasion. A few of the bolder ones may ask whatchyer wearing under it or where you're playing.

There are a couple of places at 4th Street Live (the big entertainment venue/mall downtown between Liberty St and Muhammad Ali Blvd.) where you may get a free pint for wearing the kilt - it depends on who's working that night. Some of the bartenders/wait staff will buy a kilt-wearer a round. The Pub (kinda Irish/English mix) and Sully's (more Irish feel than The Pub, but more restauranty) are the two I have in mind.

There's also a few Irish pubs near downtown on Baxter Avenue that are kilt-friendly. O'Shea's, Molly Malone's & Flanagan's. Just head east on Broadway and turn right at Baxter, or ask your favorite cabbie/local.

They're in the blocks between Broadway and Highland Ave. They're within easy walking distance of each other. The only issue is parking - good luck finding some.

If you want to find strength in numbers (kilted numbers that is) there are a dozen or more kilties in the Louisville area. We are due for a kilt night, if you were up for company. Just shout it out.

We have several after-hours functions planned that week, but if people are up for a kilt night on the 22nd or 23rd I can probably get away one of those nights (Monday or Tuesday). Just let me know where to go. I may or may not have a car, but I'm sure a cabby will get me anywhere I need to go

If people don't have any preferences, how about the Irish area on Baxter? Only because I've been to 4th Street a couple times before (and likely again with coworkers this trip), and would like to try something new

I'll second the O'Shea's on Baxter, as I tend to prefer locally-owned establishments rather than soulless chains (despite their decor and staff "uniform" of kilts, "The Pub" in Fourth Street Live is still a chain).

I'll keep a watch on this, and hopefully will join in the fun.

Well, since I suggested O'Shea's, I s'pose I oughta show up, huh?

Which night? (I'm available either) And what time? (Any time for me).

I can also provide limited* shuttle service from downtown.

*3 people, plus me as driver. Caveat: I drive a 2-door Chevy Blazer, so getting into the back seat can be challenging for those that are tall (over 6 foot).
