Utah Highland Games and Scottish Festival

The Utah Scottish Festival was just awesome except it poured rain for around 30 minutes in the afternoon. I only found one other X marker, Bill Edwards from Coalville Utah. I had some problems keeping the ladies from begging for photos with me and several of the wee ones were quite sure they saw Santa Claus in a Scout shirt and Kilt.

I also got my hands on a new Sgian Dubh and Sporran.

Good games but quite muddy. I even joined the Utah Scottish Assoc. and got a water bike bottle thrown in for the membership.
Just north of us the hail was so bad they had to close down I 80 for a bit.

Weird weather for this time of year. Now glad I didn't drive up and have to deal with it.

It usually rains on the Flagstaff, AZ games, they're coming up July 18 so I'll get some there. I think the rain comes to make the games more authentically Scottish.

And friendly ladies who BYOB....lucky lucky!!

I was also at the Highland Games that day. I think I missed the other x-markers because I went in the morning. Although the afternoon was kind of bad weather, it was perfect in the morning! It was overcast and the temperature was just right. It was not too cold nor to hot. I had a great time! It was really nice going to a place where other people wore kilts (up until now, I have been the only person wearing kilt wherever I am.)

I took some video of some of the things and I thought you guys might like to see it. First of all, sorry for the quality. It was my first time doing this with my digital camera. Wasn't sure how it would end up. First is the Mass Bands thing that happened at noon. All of the them got together to play:

Here is a good picture of the massed bands:

Here are a couple of videos of the caber toss event. One of the guys almost went back into the crowd, but he saved it:

Here is a picture of one of the highland games, but I do not know the name of it:

Right as we were about to leave, I thought I better take a picture of me by something that showed I was acctually there:

Overall, it was a great day! I had a great time. I had been waiting to go to one of these for 2 1/2 years. And as an added bonus, I found out they are starting a new on in the Cache Valley (north) this August. I can't wait!
