			 Rosettes instead of Kilt Pins?

I was browsing http://www.highlandclans.co.uk and found this example of rosettes used instead of a kilt pin.
 http://www.highlandclans.co.uk/Kilt_...al_Weight.html
(at bottom of page, click on 'see Ribbon panel')

I think it looks great, and I'm considering buying, but wondered what, traditionally, is the correct etiquette for rosettes~ are they strictly formal? Are they of military origin? Is there some significance to wearing two instead of one?

Any help would be much appreciated.
 Joe

I believe, and I could be wrong, the rosettes are of military origin. I think they were worn by NCOs and officers. But there is also a pannel worn on the pleats behind the rosettes. I don't know if these are still worn by the RHR. A search for previous threads would probably result in better information.

Here is a thread with more info.

I know that this may be a bit out of order on this thread, but when you go to the site posted above http://www.highlandclans.co.uk/Kilt_...al_Weight.htmland you click on the rosettes, as stated above, the example shown is what I am curious about. There is a kilt there that looks like the Black Watch with Red, White and Blue in it. What tartan is that?

Concerning the rosettes itself, I would rather stick to the kilt pin.

Before passing judgement I would like to see one of these rosettes actually in use on a kilt in an outfit. I think in certain dress situations it might look alright, such as pipers and weddings, etc...

					thanks everyone~
as I'm not a piper, and have no links with the military, I might steer clear of the rosette. In the right setting, though, I think it looks great.

I once had a stong hankering for rosettes for my saffron kilt. What I found is that rosettes are difficult to locate and different "rosette makers" make different styles.
I also found there is some military significance to the traditional use of rosettes with kilts...rank or something. I'm sure our board experts can fill us all in.

And, they are not worn low like a kilt pin, they seem to be worn higher on the kilt.

I finally decided not to buy any. Just me. Know others have.
