    When referring to the moderators, the abbreviation "mods" is sometimes used. Since we don't have a single moderator, "mod" is rarely used when referring to one in particular, but rather his name is usually used. I have occasionally seen "mod" used to mean "modified," typically by the same people who would shorten definitely to "def."

    MOD, when capitalized, is almost always referring to a military issued kilt, hence, I have concluded it stands for Ministry of Defense (or, technically, Defence).

    Regards,
    Rex.

    For the record;

    Tank:
    A 'TANK' is defined as an eight-yard, wool, hand-sewn, traditional kilt. ie., "It's built like a tank." (coined by Jimmy Carbomb c.2005)
    It is commonly an XMarks term and may receive a quizical look from anyone not associated with XMarks. My Hand-sewn 4 yard box pleat, traditional kilt by Matt Newsome is not a "tank" nor is a a heavyweight kilt from Stillwater Kilts. A kilt as used by any Regimental unit would be a "tank" as it is 8 yards, hand-sewn and 22oz and is built (and weighs as much) as a tank*!

    MOD - Ministry Of Defence as you'd find in Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc... These countries tend to have Highland Units therefore kilts. the US Department of Defence do have kilted pipers so these kilts could be considered MOD kilts.

    Mod - Short form for forum Moderator also see PITA.

    The abbreviation is actually "MoD" for Ministry of Defence. "DoD" would be for the US Dept. of Defense.

    I feel the love! Thanks Grant!
    "A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon
