Congratulations on your new kilt and Well said!
I have a Leatherneck box pleat from Matt Newsome and it is probably my favorite - partly because of comfort compared to my tanks, but also because of its significance. I notice you also have the same bonnet badge I do.
At this rate we may have to have a Leatherneck Social Group!

Just kidding, I get what you mean, you wanted this to be traditional and I can appreciate that

Actually Jamie, I think you hit it. It's my understanding that Marines (especially Drill Instructors) really really really hate pockets.

Not to usurp the thread, but my Dad used to tell a story where his DI caught him with a hand in his pocket a bit too long, so he was ordered to run down to the beach, fill his pockets with sand, and sew them shut. I don't remember how long he had to keep them this way, but he never liked to put his hands in his pockets - and discouraged me from doing so.

Just to clarify, Marines don't have any personal ill feelings toward pockets themselves, it's just unsightly to put your hands in them while in uniform; and, therefore is not allowed. It's not a behavior becoming the high standards of Marines. However, while in civilian clothes, you can have and use as many pockets as you'd like, even if it's just a place to rest your hands. ;)
When I was in boot camp, if you got caught with your hands in your pockets, you'd have to go put your hands in other recruits pockets and walk around like that. It discouraged me for sure.

Welcome to the Leatherneck tartan kilt club....if there is one...
Sharp look for sure.
Curious though, need some education. Thought the Leatherneck tartan was woven by Strathmore in the 13 ounce weight. Didn't realize that Lochcarron had it in 16 ounce Strome too. Woulda had mine made from that cloth if I'd known it was available...

Steve ordered it.. I followed his lead.. besides being the expert on what is available. He was also working on his own Leatherneck kilt, when I ordered mine. Like I mentioned before.. what makes this kilt even more special.. being a Leatherneck.. it was made by one too...
