Respectfully, though, but because I am an American with Scottish heritage is the reason why I do try to follow tradition and convention regarding Highland attire. For me (and me alone), it shows respect. That's not condemning either of you, just offering a different point-of-view.

The waistcoat looks grand, and I agree with Rathdown's comments 100%.

Great waistcoat - would look great with a tweed kilt too.
    Nice find.

Yes, Todd, your perspective makes perfect sense to me. While the Celtic connection is a big part of my appreciating the wearing of a kilt, I just think it isn't necessary for me to duplicate full Highland style if there are elements which don't appeal to me. I can respect the tradition. I just don't feel bound by it, especially since it's not my tradition. Hence, as an example, my wearing the Catalan cap at the last Tartan Day parade, rather than a Scottish tam.

    Exactly. Different horses for courses.

And personally, I've always admired Basque berets. If Hemingway could wear one after all...

Looks great! Judging from the rest of your outfit,I'd say somebody is a big fan of the Scottish Tartan's Museum gift shop!
