    well barb had i the money and patience at the moment id head to you, and if it was just some plaid from joanns id try my hand at kiltmaking but the fabric in question was lochcarron 16 oz which i hear tell is almost good enough to make a kilt from haha

    Deals are to be had... I got my Scotweb Lamont coming. I only paid $300 for an 8 yard wool handmade custom kilt. The dollar isn't that weak.

    I still don't think I have heard the OP tell us exactly what tartan pattern in particular he is looking for so it is tough to be more precise about estimating his cost for the fabric or a fully made up kilt without that knowledge, regardless of whether that is a machine sewn fomr either Scotland or the US or a handsewn from either place, and whether he orders the fabric himself or lets the kiltmaker do so.

    What specific tartan are you looking for in a kilt, man?
