63?! Sweet dancing monkeys! Now I have to dry the drool off my keyboard. And my vision is all tinted green now...

    Good on ya, Ron!

I'm happy for you, and as others have noted, your collection benefits me as well. First, there's the vicarious pleasure of perusing your possessions. And the case for kilt #5 does look stronger by comparison.

    Other's have more.

Ha ha! That is some number of kilts! A good shade more than some kilt shops will have in stock!

Glad to see another Macdonald! However, it's my unfortunate findings that the spelling has nothing to do with anything - simply down to whoever wrote your name. I have people in my family who are McDonalds, MacDonalds etc etc.

Ya'd not wanna lay that on my late Grandfather Murdoch...he'd give you chapter and verse about how our family has spelled the name Macdonald forever....and curse the adman who thought of the hamburger clown and made "proper" spelling more of a chore for our family.

Isn't Ham sneaking up on kilt #100 in his collection??

Well i can definitely concur about the problem with the Big Mac!

I could be wrong about the spelling issue, but as far as i'm aware (at least in Scotland), many people couldn't write, so the spelling of their name was left to the registrar, who spelt it as they thought it should be spelt! Far less romantic or mysterious than a deep rooted family ancestral tale unfortunately!

As a related side note, I can confirm that Mac vs Mc has no relevance to Scottish vs Irish names.

True, Ron! Yes, I am still at #98, and have been since I picked up two of Rocky and Kelly's Semi-Traditionals whilst I was in California in March, and Wompet sent me a kilt in his beautiful 'Sackett' tartan in April. The interesting plans that had been proposed for my #100 have been put on hold until further notice due to the cruelty of the credit crunch! As a pensioner who has relied on a small, private employment pension and interest on meagre investments, my disposable income has been severely reduced these past months, leaving the Kilt Fund collecting box virtually empty!

I have contemplated selling off the North Wing of Bicknell Grange as I use it very little, but I fear this would compromise the high level security measures I have already installed to protect the kilt vaults. A friend suggested I might take up busking again, but I am not as supple as I was when I last took to the streets and so I fear I could be wasting my time were I to resume the intensive and rigorous training that would be necessary before 'going public' again!

Hopefully, the situation will improve for us all before too long, but I am not holding out any hopes that this will be in the immediate future.

    Take care,
    Ham.
