I'm very fond of this idea; and, as soon as I can scrape the quid together, I'll be banging virtually on Matt's door for at least one (more probably two so that I can give them rest-time) ;-)

I need to take baby steps as I progress up the cost ladder of kilts.

I own both SWK standards and heavyweights. I find the heavyweights (wools) cooler because they "breath" better. They wrinkle, but can be easily steamed/pressed. Standard (acrylic) is easier to care for as I just throw it in the washer, dry a little, then hang damp and straighten out, easy to iron. I prefer the look of the heavyweight. It hangs better. Either one you pick, just measure carefully, and enjoy.
