Kilted Fly Fishers
I assume that this thread is for those members who go fly fishing whilst in the kilt. If so, I qualify.
As a youngster I used to go coarse fishing on the River Tees in NE England but caught very little. About 5 years ago I bought a secondhand Hardy 9.5' rod and Hardy Reel from a specialist shop in Penrith on the edge of the Lake District. I then went fishing on the private loch just outside Tulloch, near Ballater, Aberdeenshire and always wore my Farquharson weathered kilt ( so as not to frighten the fish !). The owner said I was the first person to go fishing there whilst kilted. Despite that, and some personal instruction from him, and 6 visits later I still have to catch my first trout.
This year, I am determined, will see my first fish at Tulloch !

Although you fit the bill, Acaig, the group is for folks who enjoy both kilts and flyfishing, although not necessarily simultaneously, so you make it in spades. I would think it is easier flyfishing kilted using the typical british style of flyfishing for trout where one stalks his pray from the shoreline rather than the American style where we put on a body condom and just climb right in the river with them. Seems like a good time to wear a "hunting" or "weathered" tartan, I agree, depending on the season.
You are neither the first or the last to see fish but be shut out of the catching thereof, on multiple occasions. I spent three days on the South Platte in Colorado watching sizable rainbows schooling practically between my legs while simultaneously watching them ignore every fly I tied on my tippet, including those I picked up from the local shop just minutes down the road. Keeps you humble, but also keeps you coming back.
Welcome to the fold, and tight lines.

I'm a little late, but I'm in. While I'm still very much learning the art my dear wife assures me it took her a fe years before she could cast as beautifully as she now does. And she has been fly-fishing since she was a young'un!

Sigh, all this talk of fishing has me missing the days I would spend on the North Umpqua and the Rogue fishing for salmon, steelhead, german browns, and rainbows.

I am in , been learning to fly fish for around 10 years now. Do not get enough opportunity to learn on the water but can it ever be enough?

All this talk of fishing has my palm itching, my casting arm twitching, my left hand doing a double haul while I am trying to type this, and my brain already thinking about what hatches are coming off which places I have fished frequently in the past. Gotta spend some time finding and reorganizing my fishing gear so I am ready to go at a moments notice, next time the itch hits and I have a day off.
