I don't think we have a photo of it, but the section of the mill that I found fascinating was the darning shop. All fabric is "person-inspected", weft line by weft line. Any defects are marked with a thread and then later corrected by hand. It takes hours per kilt length. The gentleman who gave us the tour explained that it takes more than four years to train someone to do this to standard. The sad part is, young people are not going into these trades/arts anymore. When the existing staff retire, who knows what will happen.

As Bobbie and I leave Selkirk we headed South on our way to York.
At the Scottish/English border we passed some incredible scenery.

At the border itself was this stone marking the place where we head into the unknown. On my map the area South of this stone is simply labeld "Here there be Tigers".

But I bravely step across "Going where no Kilted man has gone before."

Set up next to the stone was this small display.

The sign said "Help yourself, leave money in the tray."

I have been to the Falkirk Wheel but didn't actually ride upon it.

Those DVDs at the border are very trusting!

How lovely that you met Nick!

Wonderful pics Steve and Bobbie. Thank you for sharing them with us. The Falkirk Wheel is on my list of things to see. I just seem to keep getting distracted in the pubs of Dumfries, Edinburgh and Glasgow. ith:

As we headed South towards York I kept looking at the SatNav 'cause I had pre-programed in the Lat/Long for the section of Hadrian's Wall where the scene from Robin Hood-Prince of Thieves was filmed.

But we were sort of pressed for time. When all of a sudden Bobbie saw a sign for a Roman Fort Museum. So off we go. One of those last minute things that you later know was a real good idea.

First a couple of pics inside the small but very impressive museum.

Decorative Stones, markers, Stella, and sculpture pieces.

Pieces layed-out by occupation or use.

And what's this? The original Ghillie Brogue perhaps?

And if you know your History you will recognize this pottery urn that had a hoard of Roman coins and jewelry.

Now we head outside towards the ruin of the roman fort.
    This is the North Gate.

    And the Barracks.

This is described as the Headquarters or Admin buildings.

We continued down towards the river where the Roman Bridge was. You can see the foundation for the bridge and the track of the Wall on the far shore.

At the Edge of the river are the Baths.

So what does any self respecting Kilty do but take in the Baths.

I don't know if any of you have ever seen Rape or Safflower growing but the yellow was so bright it hurt your eyes to look at it.

We got so engrossed at this place we were now seriously behind schedule to make it to York before dark. So back in the car and we're off again.

Can't be. There's no soldiers still queued up awaiting getting their passes stamped.
