As we headed South towards York I kept looking at the SatNav 'cause I had pre-programed in the Lat/Long for the section of Hadrian's Wall where the scene from Robin Hood-Prince of Thieves was filmed.

But we were sort of pressed for time. When all of a sudden Bobbie saw a sign for a Roman Fort Museum. So off we go. One of those last minute things that you later know was a real good idea.

First a couple of pics inside the small but very impressive museum.

Decorative Stones, markers, Stella, and sculpture pieces.

Pieces layed-out by occupation or use.

And what's this? The original Ghillie Brogue perhaps?

And if you know your History you will recognize this pottery urn that had a hoard of Roman coins and jewelry.

Now we head outside towards the ruin of the roman fort.
    This is the North Gate.

    And the Barracks.

This is described as the Headquarters or Admin buildings.

We continued down towards the river where the Roman Bridge was. You can see the foundation for the bridge and the track of the Wall on the far shore.

At the Edge of the river are the Baths.

So what does any self respecting Kilty do but take in the Baths.

I don't know if any of you have ever seen Rape or Safflower growing but the yellow was so bright it hurt your eyes to look at it.

We got so engrossed at this place we were now seriously behind schedule to make it to York before dark. So back in the car and we're off again.

The City of York is not only a modern, vibrant City but it contains some truly wonderful sights.

Just a few are the "Old Town" section called "The Shambles", a world class museum, and York Minster. The Minster is a Cathedral that is larger and more magnificent than Westminster.

Luckily Bobbie has a friend who she served with in the Peace Corps in Africa back in the '70's who offered us a place to stay and guided tour of his City.

On Thursday Bobbie and her friend were on their own to walk the entire wall of the City as I went to visit Marton Mills and Vernon Bros. Tailoring in Leeds.
On Friday I joined them for the official tour.

Here is one of the Gates in the City Wall.

We then head into "The Shambles".

On the way to The Castle Museum we passed the Hall of Merchant Adventurers.

This building is older than many countries and still in use today.

Can't be. There's no soldiers still queued up awaiting getting their passes stamped.

Well, I guess it's luck that I had to unpack my bow and quiver to make the airlines weight restriction.

Or that I didn't wear my "Go ahead, make my day" T-shirt.

For me it was the Castle Museum that was the high point of York.
Now, admittedly I'm a museum junkie.

Cliffords Tower is just outside the museum.

Once you have paid your admission fee this is one of the first things that greets you as you head upstairs.

Boy, I sure hope the Mods don't think this violates our weapons rule.

Inside the museum is entire town call Kirkgate. It is not a museum trick every building is real and was moved into the museum and erected just as it would have looked like in the early 1800's.

Now, most museums are dark but this place was large and my flash wouldn' even reach to the end of the road.

But this is what was just out of flash range.

here are just a few of the buildings on in the town.
