I bet someone told you how dangerous it was to be kilted in York!

The ornate stone carving around the west entrance to York Minster includes a depiction of a man throwing a bucket of slop out a second story window onto a bagpiper. The stone mason that carved it did it in revenge. It seems a bagpipe busker had been driving him crazy as he worked at the minster stone yard that season.
I'll try to find the photo I took of it on our visit this last May.

Thanks for posting the fantastic photos. Such a contrast between the old cities and the new amazing Falkirk Wheel. When I read "a boat elevator" in the narration, I couldn't imagine what it would be. How it would be done? It took the photos to believe it, words alone would not have been enough. Very interesting and educational to see and read about the tartan looms.
I don't expect to ever be there in the places you shared with us, THANK YOU for taking the time to post them.

McClef,
Although I spent two days in York and was Kilted the whole time I found no reason to worry.
Can you explain?

Steve and Bobbie, thank you for sharing this great trip. It's a lot of work to organize and publish a travelogue! Have seen for myself a few of the places you've been so far -- isn't that part of Hadrian's Wall called Chester Fort? or perhaps I misremember -- and the scenery and rapefields bring it all back so vividly. Such a wonderful country to visit, now where's that winning lottery ticket. . . around here somewhere. . .

There is still an extant law that allow an inhabitant of York to kill a Scotman if he is carrying a bow and arrow, Trefor often cites this but I doubt very much if any one would need to worry anymore because of the "doctrine of implied repeal".It does mention Scotman though, not a kilted man so on two counts you are safe!!

Well, I guess it's luck that I had to unpack my bow and quiver to make the airlines weight restriction.
Or that I didn't wear my "Go ahead, make my day" T-shirt.
