1st X Kilt

My first kilt and my first try at sewing a kilt. The pattern is Mossy Oak Brush. I'm not sure about our rules about thing that are registered or copywriter and I think Mossy Oak owns the pattern, so if you want to see the material you can do a search on line. The pattern is very directional. There is a very definite top and bottom to the material and it runs the width and not length of the bolt. The manufacture evens has their logo in it to make sure you know. In order to get the 150 inching I needed for the kilt, I had to hide 2 splices inside the pleats. Not hard but I had to do all my measurement from the middle to make sure the splice were hidden. The fabric was very light weight rip stop cotton. Before sewing I washed it twice in hot water and dried it on high heat to get it shrink some. It was still very light after shrinking so I decided to lined the whole kilt with a khaki color fabric from Wal-Mart. Total cost $30 for cammo fabric and thread, $2 for lining (Wal-Mart special) 5 sewing machine needles and about 20 hrs of labor. There is lot of mistakes in the seams but I got my kilt and I did it myself. ith:

The review of the scout troop is mixed. Some consider me out in left field while others laugh approvingly.

Man, that is great! Ordered my first kilt about a month ago. Still hasn't shipped, but I can be patient a little longer. Hope I get good reactions from my scouts the first time I wear it! (ASM, Troop 42, McGehee, AR, DeSoto Area Council-among other BSA duties)

I'm doing the same thing, btw...joining three pieces to make one long section of cloth, with my current digicamo RK kilt.

Just got back from BSA Summer camp. We has 3 Kilts in action for the Troop. One boy had a Util-a-Kilt, one had the BSA Plaid in Standard from Stillwater and my Mossy Oak Brush. I had a lot for good reveiws and a few chuckles from the 600 scouts and adults. I did get question from one of the staff considering undergarment. I quickly allied those concerns (yes I wear them). Rememebr that BSA is keen on maitaining a certain level of decorum (and so am I). I hoping Stillwater will get my size in Saffron Heavyback in stock befor the next court of honor.

Looks like a very good job to me. I'm partial to military camo, but the hunting camo fabrics make great kilts.
