Sigh Cracker Barrel. They won't build them in Calif., understand it's due to the cost of living here, it cuts too significantly into their profit margin. We have to go to Arizona to get our CB fix...

On a serious note- first and foremost, because I bloody well please. And second and every bit as important- because I'm proud of my heritage.

I wear a kilt because of the comfort, mainly. I also feel like I look good, so I feel good. And while I do enjoy the positive comments, my ideal world would be one where a kilt isn't a curiosity, but just another article of clothing. I'd rather just go about my business without attracting attention.

Back in Dec. of 2007 I took #3 grandson with me to the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk. I use a temporary dye to turn my hair and beard white, wear a red waistcoat, santa hat and an Irish American tartan kilt. I play Christmas tunes on the pipes in the line of march. On the way home we stopped at a Cracker Barrel for dinner. It was just a day trip so I was still "in character". Santa in a kilt really turned some heads, but all reactions were positive. When we left, my grandson (also kilted) said, "Now I know what it's like to travel with a celebrity.".

Last time I was in a Cracker Barrel it was with a bunch of my motorcycling brothers. Twelve dudes wearing black leather -- we got a BIG table. The waitress came out and the first guy starts off: "We'll have a chicken-fried steak breakfast, side of hash browns, side of biscuits, grits, cup of gravy, some orange juice and pot of coffee." She says, "Thanks" and starts to leave.
The littlest guy at the table (even smaller than me) says, "That was the 'Imperial We,' Sister. Y'all come back and take the REST of the orders." I think everybody got enough to eat that morning. Hard to tell, though because I couldn't see half of them over the stack of plates on the table.

Mainly Celtic, partially Scottish on both sides of the family. It's what works for me. Like a lotta guys from the greasy-jeans-and-a-t-shirt generation, I found out that Mom was right. Sometimes you just gotta dress up, and doin' it with a little style is a good thing.

Gee, I had pancakes at the Cracker Barrel Saturday morning as well. I have to admit, though, I wasn't kilted.
MMMM, pancakes.
