    Pics wanted, best antler sgian

Your assistance is needed. I have had a sgian blade for a while now and I have had every intention of making a handle. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to it.

So, post for me your favorite antler handled sgian, as that is what I think I am going to do with this one. Or post your favorite non dress sgian that I might be able to pull off. This one is for day wear.

    Thanks

    David

This is my one and only. The top knife is elk antler with turquoise inlaid at the end. Damascus steel. Knife by Howard Clark, Master Smith.

Here's mine I made about a year ago. Piece of elk antler and pattern welded steel blade from Scotland. It's going back to Scotland with me next week. It's easy to make. Drill a hole through the pithy part of the antler - butter up the blade tang with epoxy and shove it into the hole. Do some clean-up befor the epoxy sets and you can shape the entler to fit your need. I intended to get the cap engraved so I fixed a brass cap to the end. I also added a brass bolster between the blade and the antler for show. The section of antler I choose to use had quite a bit of scaring left from the fighting that the critter did befor he lost his rack. I left them alone - gave the handle some character.

I intend to do some flea market searches for other bladed pieces. Make a neat past time refurbishing antique blades.

    Some of mine

My first sgian dubh and the one I still carry

Just for fun an elk handled dirk I made to match a antler sgian dubh

    David,

All the above were made using a belt sander, a drill, a dremel tool, sand paper, two-part epoxy and a little effort.

    Good luck on your project!

    Cheers

Mr. MacMillan, is it possible I met you at the Queen Mary Games and you showed my little one and I your staff crowned with antler and your sgian dubh, the one you post 2nd to the right looks very familiar.

Those are thumbnail posts. All you have to do is click on them and they get larger.

Regarding QM - It probably was me, I met a lot of people. Will send PM.
