The perfect casual sporran?
Hi guys.
I got my new kilt yesterday and it looks great! All I need now is a casual sporran
Currently I have a white & black rabbit fur formal and I'm looking for a leather or calfskin, sealskin or anything that isnt fluffy! I've been looking on ebay for quite a while but out of 1000 or so I can't find THE perfect one to compliment the tartan.
Here's the tartan with a leather formal:

I think that looks good and am probably looking for something along the same lines - with silver chains but just less formal. Any ideas?

Certainly for a casual sporran you will want to use a leather strap, rather than a chain. There are a number of nice sporrans available. A very nice one is made by McRostie, in Glasgow:

I quite like that... very different. I think it could go nice with my Campbell Ancient
but...
what Im thinking is my tartan is quite modern and different, bright and quite striking. I want a sporran to match... although it's probably impossible unless I get a badger or fox head.
Is a cantle acceptable on a sporran for casualwear if it is small... just a think lining to the top and takes up only about 1/8 of the sporran?

hmmm... Im not sure. It matches my belt though
I like the other 2 aswell.
I'll probably make my final decision tonight - thanks for your help!
By the way - is a sporran leather belt (rather than chain belt) necessary? I see them mainly worn by people on the forum for casual events but whenever I've seen anyone around the street or whatever with one it's always been a chain. Some of Tartan Army are guilty of wearing full dress sporrans with chain belts and WHITE HOSE with their football top and timberland boots.
For some reason I think most of the people on here (other than Jimmy) are not members - otherwise they'd all be told!

I like the chains, myself. I've never seen anybody wear those sporran straps in person. Some say chains chew up your kilt, but I think that more to do with people owning cheaper chains.
