Seriously I'd go with #2 as #1 looks a bit costumey to me.
I also agree. And are those proper hose in both of those photos? They seem to be a bit short and the turn-overs also don't look quite right. And where are your flashes?

It look likes the voting is already fairly unanimous, but I'll go ahead and voice my support for #2, as well. It all goes back to the whole "the kilt is clothing, not costume" issue.

I would wear what is more comfortable, as long as it didn't involved white hose.

"Jacobite shirts" are a stench in the nostrils of God! (In my humble opinion, of course...)

I think you could wear a light red shirt - t, polo or short-sleeve button-down. Cranberry colored socks with black flash or heavier dark gray socks with red flash. Nice tartan.

Jacobite shirts are quite popular at a lot of highland games, in California anyway, so I think either outfit would be appropriate. Since you are soliciting comment I agree with HL that kilt hose (of the color of your choosing), rather than ordinary socks, would better complete the outfit.

    Best regards,

I'm going to say #1 just to be contrary.....

Actually, both look fine to me, but I'd get actual calf-high socks in whatever color floats your boat instead of the pulled-up reg'lar socks.

Thank you for all the feedback

Looks like #2 is the winner. Thank you all for your time and comments.
The black kilt hose I AM wearing are from USA Kilts and are folded over about 2 inches. If I do not fold them over at all I can wear them higher up on my leg.
(maybe only turn them over one inch to allow a garter underneath to keep up... I don't plan to wear flashes with this outfit.... too casual).
    Anyway, thank you all!
