			A Great highland wear review

Great highland wear reviewFirst up I found out about www.greathighlandwear.com thru quite a controversial thread on here a while back. And decided to purchase myself GHW-01 Black Wool Irish Caubeen Linky
Starting at the beginning (as is best) the website I found it easy enough to look around the website and find what I was looking for it didn’t seem too cluttered and all the links I tried worked when I tried them. Ordering was simple enough after I’d registered.
 Shipping
I got two emails when I purchased my caubean both dated 21/06/2009 23:15 ish (Sunday night) one was payment accepted (I paid via PayPal) the other an order confirmation both were automated emails as far as I know and they said what you would expect both had links back to my order on the website which said payment accepted awaiting shipping. And that was the last I heard from great highland wear.com until the first of July when I sent them a message saying something along the lines of "what’s happening?" I got an email back from a real person within two hours saying “tomorrow will ship tracking will be sent by email.” No apologies or well anything that was the email I got. I waited a week before I sent another email in which I just vented and it worked I got two emails saying my product had been sent and another with tracking numbers for DHL within a short space of time this was the eight of July. It was delivered on the fourteenth of July, Six days after getting sent out which from Pakistan to Scotland including a weekend is very good the let down was the two and a half week wait from them taking my money to actually posting my order.

Now on to the Caubeen it’s self.
This is the description provided “Black 100% wool body, Two piece body construction, Black silk lining, Black silk trim, Black silk tail ribbons, Black silk badge backing rosette.”

Now ill agree with the body being made of wool and made in two pieces with the side being one piece and a lid on top but the silk lining is actually nylon so is the tails which are just sown on and are sown together half way down only leaving the ends separate and not done too well at that, The rosette and the exterior of the head band are also nylon it has wool inside but on the headband only. Looking at it I would have to say its machine stitched and then just checked over before shipping as there are a couple of squint seams but over all seems to be sturdy enough and for what I paid for it I’m not going to complain too loudly it was only something like £20 odd.

Soz im rubbish with a camera

So in conclusion I would say for something to knock about in not too dear and of a reasonable quality not quite all what their trying to say it is but close and if you’re not in any hurry for your orders to come through why not at least try Great highland Wear.
Now all I need are a few pointers on how to wear it, I’ve already pm’d Steve about an Xmarks Cap badge and I’m all set to go

Thanks for the great review. I have been looking at their website for some time but was reticent to take the plunge until I heard that they actually delivered.
I have now ordered one of their sporrans. On the basis of your experience I am not expecting the absolute finest quality but the price is certainly right.

I'll post a review when I receive it.

 Cheers!

Thanks for posting that. It sounds like they only respond when you chase them hard. At least they seem open about their stuff being made in Pakistan.
