What an excellent example of a modern-day clan society and its fellowship around a common heritage -- many thanks for posting these, Alex!

Great photos Alex. I haven't been to Hawick for a number of years now but I must rectify that soon. That statue from the Turnbulls looks fantastic. I didn't see any Scotts or Bells on the cobbles bur I take it that was just a sample.

Why do the Turnbulls gather in Hawick?
Turnbull clan territory covers the areas of the Teviot and Rule Water valleys downriver from Hawick. There are several ruins of mediaeval Turnbull strongholds which they will visit while they are here. Today (Sunday) they are attending Bedrule Church in the Rule Valley, about ten miles from Hawick.
Elliots were a clan from the north-east of Scotland who were given land in the borders immediately up river from Hawick, so Hawick is just about on the boundary of Turnbull and Elliot country. Sometimes the Turnbulls and the Elliots feuded with one another, at other times they fought the English together. Hence my remarks about an Elliot welcoming the Turnbulls back to Hawick.

Where did they all come from - was it world wide? I know a Turnbull from Australia who is the clan artist - that representation of the bull's head is his work.

    Regards
