Plus, any curling would emphasise the illusion.
I have come across garments where it is necessary to make alterations when making the same thing in different patterns, but I had thought that for a kilt it was only necessary to tweak the measurements of the pleats to achieve different pleating effect - I think I'll have to concede that there are considerations other than preferred style to be taken into account when deciding on the width of the apron.
