Hawker Hurricane Returns to Carlisle - Warbirds

Several air shows taking place in northern England and central Scotland, Carlisle airport was busy all day Saturday with various old warbirds calling in for fuel and servicing while on the display circuit. Here the Spitfire and Hurricane perform a low flypast. This will be particularly poignant for Riverkilt whose father flew Hawker Hurricanes from this airfield during World War 2.

Great shots, Alex, that Spitfire shows where some of the classic British sports cars got their design inspiration! (Too bad the namesake vehicle was less than spectacular, I owned an early one, but some of the Spits in vintage racing today are taking back their good name)

What lovely and thoughtful photos. Thanks Alex!! Yes my father flew them, he also "pranged" a Hurri...and a P-39 in Algeria...and was shot down and had to blow another P-39 at Kassarine Pass....sorta makes him half a German Ace....

Would you believe a coworker just threw away one of those huge War 2 aircraft calendars from last year. One of the pics was a Hawker Hurricane so grabbed it and posted the pic in my home office.

Amazing times those. Much gratitude for the men and women who keep those birds in the air.
