We visited that clan center a few years back. Had the best cheese & pickle sandwiches at an inn nearby, can't remember the exact name but we dubbed it Tilt-a-Whirl for some silly reason. The bluebells were in bloom that spring and they carpeted the forest for miles around. . . lovely memories, thanks!

Day 3 – Coach Tour through Donnachaidh Territory: Aberfeldy

Wednesday, 7/22 the Society had arranged a Coach tour through the ancient lands of the Donnachaidh Clan. There was a lot to see and not enough time. Most things were pointed out to us as we drove by. We did have some stops where we could look more. What follows are only the highlights.

Leaving Pitlochry, our first stop was at Aberfeldy, where we had could see the Black Watch Memorial that commemorates the formation of the Regiment here at Tay Bridge in 1740.

This magnificent bridge built by General Wade as part of the military road system was built to speed British troops to keep the Clans in line. Although, I understand Bonnie Prince Charlie was grateful to the fine road system that had been created.

Day 3 - Donnachaidh Coach Tour: Loch Tay

The rains began in earnest. What follows and elsewhere this day are some shots through the coach window.

    Loch Tay

The rains quickly created raging watersheds

    My first glimpse of Schiehallion.

Although, I couldn’t get a photo of Garth Castle we heard the story of its builder the ‘Wolf of Badanoch’, Alexander Stewart. He was one bad dude. Our guide said his burial vault in Dunkeld Cathedral was worth a trip to see. That was another reason for me to be sure to get to that town by the Tay.

The Two “Scousers", I shared with my fellow kilted tourer, John Donaghy that my Mum had been a Liverpudlian. Turns out he is from the Liverpool area and coined us with the slang name for the people of Liverpool.

    Day 3 - Donnachaidh Coach Tour – Queen’s View

Queen's View over Loch Tummel is a very famous scenic spot. Queen Victoria was quite touched when she visited and thought that it was named after her. Actually, it was named for the Queen of the Bruce!

Buzzed by the RAF, again. I believe this is a prop trainer.

I couldn't resist photographing this little fellow.
