Spray it. Black would match your belt. Matt, semi gloss, full gloss - the choice is yours. It will be unique and even full gloss won't be as shiny as it is now.
Send it out and have it silver plated. Thirty years ago only the very cheapest items were chromed; everything else a gentleman wore was silver or silver plated. Plating will probably cost more than buying a second buckle, but nothing can compare to the patina of a well polished silver buckle.
If you happen to have an aquaintance with a machine shop, then a cabinet sized bead blaster with adjustable pressure would do the trick. Light to medium pressure and fine glass beads would dull the finish nicely. So would a shot tumbler with walnut shells for the tumbing medium.
At the moment I myself have a three inch belt with a simple standard buckle. This one is for my paintball kilt. I have plans for getting kilt set for various occasions:
Paintball
Casual
Formal
With each I know I will need different belts and buckles. Although this is a lot of fun it does get a wee bit pricy at times . . .
