    2 years of sporrans

    Hello All,

I've dropped our old site, and many of the images along with it. Here's a retrospective of 24 months of sporran crafting. There are about 6 missing that I've passed on to other folks. If I see 'em, I'll snap a picture.

#1- My Bison hide shooting sporran. It's kitchen sink big, with zippered pockets inside, and a clip for my keys.

#2. Deerskin day sporran. A bit smaller.

#3. A mixed hide sporran. Smoke tanned Bison for the flap, and moo cow for the body. Holes punched for clan badge.

#4. Smoke tanned bison with holes punched for clan badge. This one shares the thimble/cones and cords with #6

#5. Made to match my new brogues. Cow hide

#6. Cow and elk day sporran with brass thimbles for cones.

#7. Elk and Bison hunting sporran with fox paw relief

#8. Brass cantle hunting sporran with deerskin pouch. The cantle was nickle plated, with heavy relief. It came from Pakistan on my first $50 sporran. I took it to task on the belt sander. The cantle is actually threaded on. I cut a deer antler crown for the badge, but I'm still in search of an appropriate figure to mount in it. (cotter pins and brass beads, with a 3/4" brass ring for the belt- if you're going to ask...)

    More in the next post.....

moving right along into evening wear....

#9. Black cow hide casual evening sporran with antler tip toggle. I made a matching one for another dad in the area.

#10 . Recycled Sealskin semi-dress with black cow hide. Antler crown toggle. The rest of this sealskin coat went to other XMarkers. My dad and Uncle each have a match for this one.

#11. Semi dressy (er) hunting sporran for the lodge. Black moo moo.

#12. Black Elk hide with silver fox fur. Matching one on dad in Atlanta.

#13. A previous DIY thread. This young Grey Fox was a road kill gifted to me. I took her from freezer to Burns Supper with my own hands. My father has a mate, made from a silver fox stole. It's equally pretty. The additional fur from the body of his was used to make the bags for the two #12's. There wasn't enough of my fox left to even complete the bag for this sporran. The sides, and a portion of the front are made from very carefully matched panels from an old Raccoon fur coat.

The other sporrans were in a similar vein, and tended towards day wear. I'm working on a mold to cast pewter for cantles, as I've got a growing collection of nice leather and pelts for evening wear.

    Cheers,

    Kevin.

    PS- new camera!

First off, I'd like to say how much I love your Avatar...I'm guessing that's you and your son? Adorable pic!

Secondly...I love your work. There's at least two of these sporrans that I want to own!!! I've done a fair amount of leatherwork myself, and I can see myself attempting to replicate one or two of these! Love the fox paw hunting sporran and the plain brown deerskin day sporran most of all, but there's several others I like too. Great work!!
