In general, I do not wear a tie tac with a silk tie. Then again, I usually don't wear a silk tie with my kilt, except for the band tie.
On the increasingly rare occasions I'm wearing a non-silk long tie (like my dad's old 100% virgin wool tie) with the kilt and need to wear a tie tac, I wear my Eagle Scout tie tac (mid-1980's style, that doesn't say "BSA" on it).

when i bought my amethyst cufflinks a few months back i got one with a matching amethyst tie pin but never got to use it with the tie being black silk i didn't want to pierce the material
so the misses days ago got some magnetic earing's and free with them was this little fake diamond mens earing stud(not very good picture below) Ive since claimed it for my tie and i shall be using that type of magnetic stud from now on and plan to buy other magnetic studs so i can mix and match with any future cufflink purchase

but as for pins/badges its one thing i collect i dont have many perhaps 20-30 small tie pins but its ones ive gather for most of my life from various places

In general I don't ever where a tie holder mainly because of the damage they do to a tie. With a waistcoat I find them unnecessary, on occaision I where a pearl pin on a tie but very rarely.
