I have been asked "The question" in a number of different ways by women at work or out and about. My usual answer is "Now that is the mystery of the kilt isn't it" ... always leaving the door open for further inquiry. They have had fun with us all these years, I figure a little payback is in order.

Well if Grant can't get a kilt check maybe he can get his pleats straightened too.

Authentic? I don't know that I would be able to keep a straight face. Everything is authentic under my kilt! Need I mention all the offers I get in spam?

My favorite is so far: "is it (pause) comfortable?" The look in the woman's eyes said what she really meant.
What made it funnier is that that my wife answered "yes" for me.

Well, that's the way the even playing field tilts.

Missed opportunities...
“You look very authentic…Are you authentic?”
(With a sad "you caught me" expression and a monotone voice)
"No Ma'am. I was manufactured at Bio Corp's Raleigh facility. As a "B" class replicant I have been programmed to completely fit in with human society. Obviously I am flawed and must report back to the facility for termination."
(With shoulders drooped and head down sadly walk away)
