Pipes welcome HHDL to Germany
Are we globalized yet?
A Scottish pipe band welcomes HH the Dalai Lama of Tibet to Germany. Of course.

Thanks for posting the pix.
It makes sense that a RCMP band would welcome him to Canada. But Germany?
I just noticed the khata, the white scarf presented by Tibetans in ceremonial greetings, tied to the drones, as well as in the customary position around the piper's neck. Cute.

That's what I thought as well.
There are other pictures on the web site of HH tying the scarf to the pipers drones.

So, HH must be familiar with ribbons on drones?

Does HH particularly like pipe music?

Dunno, but he has long heard something similar, the gyaling, a split reed instrument played with circular (continuous) breathing. A pair of gyaling players precede him when he enters on ceremonial ocassions, not unlike a piper would.
