Great pics of a fantastic nature. I'm going on a four-day trip to the Jotunheimen (a nature reserve with some of Norway's highest mountains) in the end of the week. I'm so looking forward to it.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Alan. Beautiful scenery and companion, great weather: what more could you want? Great shot of the dragonflies . . . um . . . cuddling.

Doesn't that dragonfly shot break some forum rule? LOL

Great shots, hiking is not my cuppa but looks as if you had a wonderful time. We used to spend summers at Lundy Lake (late 50s/early 60s), the SN is full of special places. Glad you found the time to reach a few of your own.

You GUYS.......the dragonfly shot is of a newly metamorphosed dragonfly. The animal with wings has just emerged from the shed skin of its final larval state.

The larval stages of dragonflies are sometimes called "Hellgrammites" and they are nasty predators that crawl around the bottom of ponds. When the time comes, they climb out on a reed and do their final metamorphosis to the adult form...which is the dragonfly you see flying around a pond on a summer day. Damselflies....miniature dragonflies, do the same thing.

The dragonfly with wings is slowly changing to his adult color, which will be black and electric blue, and the wings are hardening in the sun.

    I love dragonflies, thanks!
