    Day 8 – Inveraray Tour

I was disappointed that in my 2004 trip we could not visit Inveraray. Now that disappointment would be erased. This town did not disappoint in its charm.

The bridge in background is the means into the town. There is a keep on top of the hill.

Inveraray is on beautiful Loch Fyne.

We did a walkabout of the town. The town Celtic Memorial Cross.

No visit to Inveraray would be complete without a visit to the kilt makers Redshanks. Here is Chris with the owner Frances. Besides them are bolts of the finest tweed tartan you have ever seen. Chris gets his XMarks handle from here, being good friends of late Bernard O'Hagan master kilt maker/designer. Chris assisted him in the shop during Bernard's illness.

I acquired from Frances a pair of ancient red self tie garters to match my Malcolm kilt!

The town has a bell tower that is quite impressive. It’s ten bells hold a world record in having the second-heaviest ring.

I was amused with the ‘green’ roof of this bus stop near the bell tower.

    Day 8 – Inveraray Tour

    World War I Memorial

Part of the inscription on the monument.

    Loch Fyne

I’ve “misplaced” my edited photo of the Artic Penguin, so until I find it, I’ve borrowed this one from the town of Inveraray’s web site.

Don’t want to lose the maritime importance of the town.

Chris had posted a thread on my visit which if you missed it you can see it here.

More to come – The Duke of Argyll’s Castle.

Day 8 – The Duke of Argyll’s Castle

It’s only a short walk from the town of Inveraray to The Duke of Argyll’s Castle. It’s an impressive place both from the outside and inside. No photos are allowed of inside Inveraray Castle but you can get a sense of it but clicking on this link. The Chief of the Campbell Clan has one heck of an abode.

A standing stone is off the road to the castle. There must be more standing stones in the Argyll than the rest of Scotland and Ireland combined.

One of things, I had already determined about Chris is he knows everyone. You can easily observe how everyone is delighted to see and talk to him. As I surveyed one of the Castle’s rooms, I really didn’t pay too much attention to Chris chatting with one of workers carrying some bags of clean laundry. A bonnie lass who was just going about her duties. When Chris caught up with me, he commented The Duchess has a lot to do today. Then it hit me like a load of bricks, connecting the face to the photographs of the Duchess!

There is much on display in the castle and you could spend many a day soaking it all in.

Day 8 – Evening Sight Seeing

We left Inveraray, and Chris was single tracking through the country side.

We stopped to soak in the beauty of Lock Awe.

Chris is wearing his Inveraray tweed kilt. That is one beauty of a tartan. I wearing my Newsome single box pleat XMarks tartan kilt.
