I've spoken with two vendors so far, neither has mentioned this issue, so maybe it's a non-issue -- but best ask the question up front, right?
I would say, in UK terms, The "sett" would be the same for both styles of tie. A quick look at the Smart Turnout website confirms this, I would say.

I don't own as many as Rex, but I have quite a collection; substantially supplemented with the passing of my father in law earlier this year. I wear them only for work functions and occasional holidays, but I do enjoy a variety.

I think it looks better with "Bright Light Blue" in place of Petrol Blue.

My tentative plan is to get hold of a remnant/scrap of wool XMTS tartan and have vendor match to that.

I think you will find that you are limited to the choice of colours offered by the vendor, unless you want to involve yourself (and by extension, all of us) in the added expense of a truly custom tie, with the colours matched to a swatch of tartan fabric.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply custom-dye. But the vendor can more easily "match" to available colors given a sample, vs. various people looking at how colors are displayed on their monitor and making guesses/suggestions.

Everyone
Lets take a step back from this, Hank and the moderating staff are discussing this right now, before anything is done on this we need to have Hank's approval. Out of respect we are also discussing this with our merchandise guy The Wizard of BC.
Please bear with us, we will get back to you shortly.

I like this design as well but I think McMurdo's has more of a traditional club tie look.
You make a good point.

Thanks for working that design up Glenn. I'll agree that the gray stripe sounded like a better idea than how is actually looks.

Feel free to knock my idea if you don't like it.
I agree, this is more representative of the tartan.
