Feel free to knock my idea if you don't like it.

If we are going to have a tie it should be in the colours of our tartan. Otherwise, we might as well choose any old colours. We are making this decision for all time, so it needs to be right.
It matters not that it might be too 'busy' or that we have nothing to match it. The only people who are going to recognise it are fellow XMarkers.
As to costing more - we have the whole world to search and source, not just the US or the UK. Although we are very excited about it today, it could take another six months before the first tie is put round someone's neck. So let us take our time and get it right.

About the only change I would suggest would be to make all the stripes the same width. I can see that the MkIII is more like a typical 'club tie' but it just does not say XMarks to me as well as the MkII.
Perhaps after Hank appoves, we should have a poll?

FWIW I think the MkII version looks like something you'd buy at JC Penny's-- a nice looking tie, but not a club tie.
Club ties should be just that: a Club tie, and not a "fashion" accessory. Club ties have evolved over the years so that their distinctive appearance announces, at a glance, membership. Stripes are bold so as to be easily recognizable and when the colours of the stripes are such that it is thought advisable to separate them then a very thin line of contrasting colour is in order.
Glen's last effort (Mk III?) is a 100% pukka club tie as it follows all of the accepted design standards of club ties. In comparison, the Mk II is just a nice looking fashion accessory.

Yeah... Since I don't have the luxury of being an authority on everything, I think I will sit this one out other than to call for a poll to allow our members to their selection from the choices that are in play.

Bold stripes, one to two inch width, get my vote.

Well, I had refrained posting a revision to my prototype proposal when things were going in a direction, but since the stakeholders have opened up the discussion in that direction again, I'll go ahead and toss out version 2-dot-oh.
Simulating how one might see it from afar, you can see that you might recognize it easily.

I don't see any reason why it should look like the XMTS tartan. It's a tie. Sure, use a few of the colours, but you don't have to match everything up!
