    Vat 69

I've bee watching Band of Brothers again (one of the best war films, imo). Lt. Nixon's drink of choice is VAT 69

whatever happened to it? I remember seeing it in the 60's I think, but not in a very long time.

    Is/was it a vatted malt?

It is still produced by my former employer Diageo. It is a blended scotch. I know you can buy it here in Boston.

Definitely still available, at least at one of my local liquor shops. Did some research and discovered that a large part of the blended makeup of VAT69 came form a now closed distillery at GlenEsk up until the 1980s. You can still find GlenEsk single malts special bottlings on the rare whiskey exchanges, going for as much as 3-400GBP a bottle or more.

But VAT 69 sits on the bottom shelf at my local liquor store amidst all the other "generic" blended scotch whiskies.

Thanks gents. So it was vat number 69 out of 100 that was the winning blend.

Never had it but I'll keep an eye out for it. I've seen the Band of Brothers series close to a dozen times and I've always thought to myself that I'd like to at least try it. I'm assuming that it's not very good if it sits on the bottom shelf next to the store brand liquor.
