    St. Thomas School

Note that there appears to be a range of ethnicity's in the band. Don't need to have a Scottish background to participate in this culture which is great as far as I am concerned. It is happening in Canada too.

As far as football (soccer to us) we field an ok team but not enough attention is on it so we will never really be the best possible. So same goes to the US we don't feel inclined to put our best into it.

Played a lot of football (soccer) in HS and really loved the game but i can never really get into watching sports.
Rubbish you can only claim to be a world champion at anything if you compete internationaly. I assume that because its only played nationally the concept of national champion does not appear to be big enough for the teams, managers and fans egos. Saying no other country is interested in a sport does not make you a world champion by any stretch only to an egotist with grand ideas.

If I create a game called tiddly farts and ask or want no one to play does that make me a world champion or a sad old egotist who desperately wants to be champion at something?

The best players from Asia, Central America, South America, The Caribbean, Australia, US, Canada play in MLB, so I guess the overall winner can call itself World Champion

As I posted above you can only be a world champion if teams other than from your own country are involved this is getting silly. You are just after my tiddly farts title IMO and you can not have it

Real international sports use players from their own nation only. See world cup football, cricket, Rugby, hockey, Olympics etc etc. Even things like the commonwealth games which include several nations do not egotistically declare they are world champions.

Gentlemen - this discussion over World Champions is getting very close to a point where politics enter that discussion and we mods will be forced to close the thread. It has already veered off topic enough.

    Thank you,

    Brian

well if you count canada as its own country we do play hockey and baseball internationally .. case in point toronto blue jays in mlb, and the maple leafs and canucks in nhl, but me personally i think of canada as the united states attic so you still win. however i have been tiddlyfarts galactic champion since 1979.

Do not be silly I am the Tiddly farts champion the one and only. Thats the trouble being a champion you always have some young pretender trying to steal your belt. The famous brown twine belt (which coincidently looks just like garden twine) Currently holding a couple of sweet peas to a bit of trellis in my garden. Its getting a bit like rocky XI or whatever number its up to.

I see I have no other recourse but to deal with this in the time honoured fashion tea and scones in my garden (bring a well sharpened broad sword and your parsnip shield)

As for a game between US & Canada at best this is only a continental game not a world event, you fail to recognise that other countries exist simply saying Continental America is far from the world. What happened to Europe, Asia, Africa and Australasia did they move to a different world when I was not looking.

Never true when the contest is only open to one country. A world wide challenge has to apply to be a world champion. It does not apply if foreign teams playing for foreign nations are excluded.

Only applicable if countries like in world athletics, like for example the olympics where even poorly trained and performing nations are entitled to have a shot. If its a sport where say a third world country ask to play and get laughed at that would mean that the "winner" is not a world champion.

Do any American sports have the capacity for international entries no. QED they are not open to the world therefore they are definitely not a world wide event. So by common sense, they are unable to say they are world champion unless they have played against all the world or offered the world inclusion.
