Thank you all for your expressions of sympathy and support. They are much appreciated.

And, yes, a beautiful thought in the poem.

I forgot -- the poem is "A Parable of Immortality," written by Henry Van Dyke, a 19th century clergyman, educator, poet, writer and US minister to the Netherlands.

I really like it. We're never alone when we take the journey from this life to the next. After all, we have loved ones who've gone before us, done a little recon work and are ready to give us a big reception and guided tour.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

How sad for you. Losing a deceased loved one's pet always seems to reopen the old wound somewhat. I fully sympathise. I remember when my Mom's cat died (in my arms) it was like losing Mom all over again.

I'd like to update this thread to note that I had to put the pooch to sleep a couple of weeks ago. It did hurt, but it was pretty clear that her time had come.

Now they are all together again. I feel that a major chapter of my life has now closed. R.I.P.

A huge part of life is just "showing up." You showed up for your mom and for the animals she loved. As simple as that sounds, not everyone can handle it. You did well for them all.

The chapter is closed, but the book continues.

    Loss of Mom's pets.......

Sorry to hear the losses inyour life recently Galician.

    You are in my prayers.

The words of Martin Luther I find comforting, when he looked at his little faithful hound and said" Fear not little dog, for you too will have a golden tail in heaven".

    God's Peace be with you,

    Robert "V"

I feel for you. I lost my mother when I was 18 and I lost my grandparents who really raised me in '07 and '08. It never gets easier but it does get better. May your mother be feasting with the ancestors and may her cat be underfoot chasing a toy!

"The Rainbow Bridge " is a beautiful story. I would like nothing better than to have my furry family waiting for me. I hope the story gives you some comfort.
